Termite Control

Subterranean termites are the most common species of termite found in the U.S. They are also the most destructive species and can entirely collapse a building. The annual price tag associated with Subterranean Termite Control and the cost to repair their damage annually exceeds over $2 billion. The winged forms, most commonly referred to as "swarmers," are only 1/2 inch long, and the workers and soldiers species are only 1/4 inch long. The swarmers are most often seen in the open and are dark brown/black. Workers are whitish-colored, blind, and very sensitive to heat, cold, and dry air.

Termite Habitat

Termites live in colonies in the ground. Due to their sensitivity, termites build shelter or mud tubes that have a diameter approximately the diameter of a pencil.

How to Prevent Termites

  • Stack all firewood and lumber several feet away from the building
  • Keep all wood-supports of decks and porches more than one foot from a foundation
  • Keep landscaping mulch at least one foot away from a foundation
  • Repair leaking water-lines that could drip onto wooden parts of your home or building
